Artificial nail for Homecoming, acrylic vs. gel vs. store bought?

Okay! So Homecoming is this Saturday and my nail polish chips way too easily so I'd love to have my nails done, but I don't know what to choose.

Acrylic or Gel?

My dress is black and I'm wearing really cool silver jewelry because our theme is futuristic. I'm planning on bringing in black light nail polish when i get them done so my nails glow at Homecoming :)! The polish is a blueish purple, really cool.

I can't really get the store bought ones because my nail beds are way too small for those. They never fit. :/

What do you think I should get? Acrylic or Gel? Which one is better? Which one is cheaper?Artificial nail for Homecoming, acrylic vs. gel vs. store bought?
Get Gel nails. Its all I ever get. I have had acrylic and the tips are brittle. I have had the tips break right off. This never happens with Gels.

Plus Gels go on alot faster.Artificial nail for Homecoming, acrylic vs. gel vs. store bought?
Get gel they are a lot better quality and stay on for longer. I prefer the look of gel also. If you just get them occasionally they are to too damaging to your nails. When you remove them, put your hands in acetone( can be bought at any beauty supply store) for 15-30 minutes and they will pop right off. Have fun!!
just paint your nails or get them done. its you are seriously getting acrylic/gel/store bought nails for homecoming thats kinda wierd. if you get them done they are going to ruin your nails. its just better if you go to your local salon and get a manicure
I advise against fake nails, simply because the ones that get glued on at salons are going to ruin your natural nail, making them brittle and thin. It will be a pain (not to mention somewhat gross) to remove.

I would just say paint your nails and be sure to use a top and base coat. Purchase them as soon as possible, and test them out with the nail polish before the homecoming, so you can see how long it will last or how it will look throughout the day.

I personally do not like fake nails. I find they look almost.. gross? But that's just my opinion, so go with what you want in the end.

';Acrylic Nails:

There are several popular techniques that can be used to create longer better looking nail enhancements. One popular material commonly called ';acrylics'; is a mixture of a polymer powder and a liquid monomer (eg. ethylmethacrylate). The mixture starts to harden in 30鈥?0 seconds after application and continues to cure to final hardness typically for more than an hour. Powder and liquid acrylics can be removed in 20 minutes using a variety of solvents (usually acetone is used). Acrylic nail powders are available in a variety of colours and can use ';special effects'; such as contours, sparkles and the very popular French Manicure (pink and white appearance).

Gel Nails:

Another material, commonly called ';UV gel';, (in correct chemical terms a polymer) resin hardens under ultraviolet light. Depending on brand these can show a broader variety of quality and properties (flexibility, strength, etc.) but may be more expensive. They generally cannot be removed by organic solvents, but only be removed by filing (or left to grow out with the natural nail).

Plastic Fake Nails

Another popular alternative to acrylic or gel preparations are Fiberglass or Silk wraps. They are done by cutting pieces of actual fiberglass or silk fabric to fit on the surface of the nail or tip and then it is sealed down with a resin or glue. These are a possible alternative for those who are allergic to chemicals used in the acrylic or gel process. Other materials can be used, as well as combinations of them. There are also temporary, cheaper flexible tips that can be quickly glued at home without help from a professional.';

If this doesn't help, I'd advise just going in to the salon early and asking them these questions, as they will likely be your best source for answers.
