Ok, so I am really tired of wearing acrylic nails because they look good for like 4 days and then look tacky and gross, I want to let my natural nails grow but I have been wearing fake ones for a long time and they are really thin and hurt really bad. I was wondering, what are overlays? Would these make it easier for my real nails to grow? I've heard that these are better for your nails but I'm not sure...any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Artificial nail question?
Gel overlays are painted on nails and usually have a piece of cloth in between to strengthen them. The problem is the filing/buffing down of your natural nail is what is causing the damage. I would suggest having the acrylics soaked off by a professional and having a manicure at the same time to fix some of the damage, then using a nylon enhanced nail strengthener (or ';Nail Tek'; is good) on your nails and grow them out.Artificial nail question?
You are battling the same problem as me! The best bit is just to take acrylics off and prepare yourself for a long wait to grow out the nails which were damaged/filed to thin layer by the technician. It would take about 3 months, where your own nails will gradually grow and you have to keep cutting them short, because they will be very thin and soft and will tear anyway.
I went through this twice and I would not recommend overlayers, as they are the same thing basically, have to be filled in anyway and your own nail have to be filed again to death.
Just stick with your decision and good luck. Invest in special tablets for nail growth, and in 3 months you will see, your nails will be ok again.
i don't know about overlays, but when i used to have trouble with my nails i used sally hansen's hard as nails. it's like a topcoat, it's clear polish. it makes them stronger.
i've never been a fan of fake nails, i'd just lay off them and go natural.
