What is the best way to remove artificial nails, without going back to the salon?

i bite mine off! i have tried nail polish remover and it doesn't work. i don't even go to get my nails done anymore because i have a problem biting them off. What is the best way to remove artificial nails, without going back to the salon?
I would wait until they start to come off the bed in the corners alittle bit, if you can. When they start coming off themselves, I like to use a regular playing card, slide it under the artificial nail and move the card in a sawing motion and it will loosen the nail up enough to get it off. Picking and prying tends to be more painful, and soaking in nail polish remover takes FOREVER. If you have pure acetone, would dilute that with water and use that. That's generally what they use at the salon. Like I said before though, I would wait till they start ';wanting'; to come off. It'll make it much easier. Goodluck!

P.S. I like to drink a couple beers first. lol Takes the edge off, as it can be alittle bit painful. haha :P

EDIT: And unless you have someone else there willing to scrape the ';goo'; that used to be your nails when you soak them in acetone, you will have a huge mess on your hands. And you'l be sitting there forever. :)What is the best way to remove artificial nails, without going back to the salon?
Soaking them in pure acetone is the most effective method to remove acrylic nails. Don't bother soaking them in soapy water - it does nothing to them. Don't use regular nail polish remover - it's not strong enough. And don't listen to anybody with bright ideas on how to force them off. That can, and WILL cause damage to your natural nails.

Use pure acetone...
you can get a kit from wal-mart that soaks them off .It work good and is inexpensive.I get my nails done in the fall after all my gardening is done.
I just soak my hands in soapy water, but it might be a little painful. I can't use nail polish remover, but I've heard that it works well too.
Bang them against the wall repeatedly.
soak them in acetone polish remover.
My friend soaks hers in acetone - I've seen it with the polish removers at Walmart
