Have you worn artificial nails? what are your thoughts?

What about artificial nails?

...on a guy?

im a guy wanting to crossdress for a day. Never done it before, but as part of it I would love to have a beautiful set of nails. Weird perhaps.. Anyway, has anyone had experience with false nails? what is involved in getting them put on and getting them off? are acrylics or gels better? would anyone be prepared to do a set for a guy, or is that too weird??Have you worn artificial nails? what are your thoughts?

I'd definitely go for temporary ones if you want them just for the day. You can either get the kind with adhesive already on the back, or if you go to a beauty supply place they have little sticker things...kind of like double stick tape for nails, that do the same thing. Then you can use whatever fake nails you want.

As for getting gels or acrylics, just make sure you go to a good place. Acrylic is a two part system (liquid and powder) that are combined and then shaped on your nail and will air dry. Gel has a thick-ish, syrupy consistency. It's applied to your nails with a brush and cures under a UV light. Also, there are no ';powder gels';. Some crappy nail places try to trick you into paying more for this, claiming it's gel, but if you see them mixing liquid and powder it's acrylic. For acrylics you soak them off with acetone. A lot of gels have to be filed off, but lately there are more and more kinds of soak off gels too.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be more than happy to do your nails. I know guys who get their nails done for playing guitar, so it's not that unusual for a guy to be in a nail salon.
If you're only going to try them out for a day, it'd be best to get the temporary ones from Wal Mart and put them on yourself.

If you get them done professionally, you will also need to have them removed professionally. Taking them off yourself is painful and it will ruin your nails.

If you DO decide to get them done professionally, you should go to an Asian nail salon. They are pretty non-judgemental and will do them without asking questions or being rude.
