What can i expect when I go get artificial nails for prom?

i've never gotten fake nails, because I never thought there was an occasion appropriate enough for them.. what can I expect at the nail salon?

It depends on which type of nails you get. If you get gel nails (the best type in my opinion) they clip your nails short, buff them, put a layer of clear nail substance on your nails and let dry. After that they glue on extensions and cut them to the length you wish to have. After they're cut and filed to the shape you want, they put a white gel on the tips (if you choose the french manicure style). You place your hands under a blue light, which cures the gel. After that is done for all your nails, they cover the rest with a clear gel. Warning, when they harden the gel it can burn a little bit. Taking your hand out for a few seconds helps though. Once all if hardened they shine, shape and your done.
I have only had them once, because getting them put on was so painful for me. It may not be the same for you, but also remember that you can't just take them off. Think about trying to put in/take out contacts (if you wear them), typing, or even trying to pick your nose! :)
